Cerenia is a medication used to treat vomiting and motion sickness in dogs and cats. It is an antiemetic that reduces the sensation of nausea and manages vomiting. Cerenia is available as a tablet that can be given to dogs at home to prevent nausea and vomiting, especially from car sickness. It is also available as an injectable administered by a veterinarian and is often used to prevent nausea and vomiting before surgery. Cerenia is considered safe to give to dogs when prescribed and given under the direction of a veterinarian. However, it should not be used in dogs with gastrointestinal obstruction, dogs that have ingested toxins, or in dogs under 8 weeks old. It should also be used with caution in dogs with hepatic dysfunction or other medications that are highly protein bound. Cerenia is the first and only FDA-approved veterinary medication to safely and effectively treat vomiting in dogs and cats.
