A Certificate Authority (CA) in Hyperledger Fabric is a server that is responsible for issuing and managing certificates for identities and permissioning purposes. Hyperledger Fabric implements two types of certificates: Enrollment Certificates for identities and TLS Certificates for node and client communications. The Fabric CA server is provided to assist in the setup and administration of Fabric networks. The Fabric CA server generates certificates for users and adds additional information called attributes in certificates, which is propagated to the system. The Fabric CA server also creates a self-signed certificate for the CA, which is the root certificate for fabric-ca, and the ca-key.pem file is the secret key used to sign certificates when identities enroll with the CA. The ca-cert.pem is the public component and is used in the verification of certificates.
