Climate is the long-term pattern of weather in a particular area, typically averaged over 30 years. It includes statistics other than the average, such as the magnitudes of day-to-day or year-to-year variations. Climate is determined by a region’s climate system, which has five major components: the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the cryosphere, the land surface, and the biosphere. The difference between climate and weather is that weather occurs over hours or days, while climate refers to the average of all weather that takes place over a much longer period, usually years or decades. Climate change is any systematic change in the long-term statistics of climate variables such as temperature, precipitation, pressure, or wind sustained over several decades or longer.
