Coenocytic hyphae are a type of hyphae found in fungi, which are aseptate, meaning they do not contain septa or a long cell that is not divided into compartments. They are multinucleated, large cells that result from nuclear divisions within a cell without accompanying division of the cytoplasm. As a result, they possess several nuclei scattered around the cytoplasm along with other cell organelles such as the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and ribosomes. Coenocytic hyphae are found in Zygomycota (bread molds) and Penicillium mold. They allow faster transport of nutrients as compared to the septate hyphae as there is a continuous cytoplasm present in coenocytic hyphae.
