Competitive exclusion, also known as Gause's law, is an ecological principle stating that two species competing for the same limited resources cannot coexist indefinitely in a stable environment. When both species require identical resources and occupy the same ecological niche, the more efficient or better-adapted species will eventually outcompete and displace the other, leading to the latter's local extinction or forced niche shift.
