Consumer Rights is a set of laws that represent the right to be informed about the quantity, quality, purity, potency, price of goods and their standards so that the consumer is protected against all sorts of unfair trade practices. It is a chapter in the CBSE Class 10 Social Science Economics course that highlights eight consumer rights that every consumer must be aware of in a market situation. These rights are:

• Right to be Informed
• Right to Choose
• Right to be heard
• Right to Satisfaction of Basic Needs
• Right to Redress
• Right to Consumer Education
• Right to a Healthy Environment

Consumers also have specific responsibilities towards society and other consumers, such as being mindful of the safety and quality of goods and services, and avoiding exploitation. The Consumer Protection Act 1986 governs these rights and responsibilities.

If a person feels that any of their rights are violated at any point in time, they can take legal action against the producer/seller of the good(s). Consumers have the right to seek redressal against unfair trade practices and exploitation, and can file cases in consumer courts. The consumer movement in India has led to the formation of various organizations known as consumer forums or consumer protection councils that guide consumers on how to file cases in the consumer court.
