Cyanoacrylate is a family of strong, fast-acting adhesives with industrial, medical, and household uses. It is commonly known as "Crazy Glue" or "Super Glue". The main ingredient in cyanoacrylate glue is cyanoacrylate, which is an acrylic monomer that transforms to a plastic state after curing. Cyanoacrylate glue is composed of an acrylic resin and is water-resistant. It can be used to combine anything from metal to plastic and even human skin. Cyanoacrylate glue is widely used in human and veterinary medicine. It was used in veterinary medicine for mending bone, hide, and tortoise shell by the early 1970s or before. Cyanoacrylate is also used as a forensic tool to capture latent fingerprints on non-porous surfaces like glass, plastic, etc. Cyanoacrylate is warmed to produce fumes that react with the invisible fingerprint residues and atmospheric moisture to form a white polymer (polycyanoacrylate) on the fingerprint ridges. Cyanoacrylate is used in the cosmetology and beauty industry as an eyelash extension glue, or a "nail glue" for some artificial nail enhancements such as nail tips and nail wraps. Cyanoacrylate glue can have potential issues such as the possible lack of bonding occurring between the glue and a surface due to an absence of moisture, which may occur on some surfaces. Another problem is the cyanoacrylate glues tendency to form strong bonds with undesirable surfaces, such as skin.
