DAB+ stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus, which is an upgraded version of the DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) technology used to broadcast digital radio services in many countries around the world. DAB+ uses the HE-AAC v2 (AAC+) audio codec, which is more robust and efficient than the MP2 audio codec used in the original version of DAB. DAB+ is more spectrum efficient than DAB, which enables more radio stations to be broadcast within the same amount of bandwidth. DAB+ is also designed to be more robust in areas with weak signal strength, making it more reliable than DAB.

DAB+ uses exactly the same transmitters and broadcast technology as DAB, but it converts sound to digital in a different way, so to receive DAB+ stations, you must have a DAB+ enabled radio. DAB+ is compatible with DAB, and existing DAB radios will continue to receive all the DAB stations broadcasting. DAB+ offers many features and benefits, including higher sound quality than FM radio, more choice of radio stations, and additional multimedia services such as displaying information like song title, artist, and album cover.

DAB+ is widely adopted as the digital radio standard worldwide, on-air in more than 40 countries including Australia, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, Norway, Poland, Malta, Denmark, Netherlands, Hungary, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Tunisia, Qatar, Kuwait, and South Africa. The European and Arab States Broadcasting Unions have adopted DAB+ as the preferred digital radio standard, and there is widespread interest in rolling out DAB+ in the Asia-Pacific and Southern Africa.
