DALL-E is a generative AI technology developed by OpenAI that enables users to create new images with text-to-graphics prompts. It is a text-to-image model that uses deep learning methodologies to generate digital images from natural language descriptions, called "prompts". DALL-E can create original, realistic images and art from a text description, and can combine concepts, attributes, and styles. It can generate imagery in multiple styles, including photorealistic imagery, paintings, and emoji. DALL-E can even modify existing images, create variations of images that maintain their salient features, and interpolate between two input images. It can produce images for a wide variety of arbitrary descriptions from various viewpoints with only rare failures. DALL-E 2, the newest system, generates more realistic and accurate images with 4x greater resolution than DALL-E 1. It can also realistically edit and retouch photos based on a simple natural language description. DALL-E 3, announced in September 2023, is the successor to DALL-E 2 and promises “significantly more nuance and detail” relative to DALL-E 2 and other previous models.
