Dawah is an Arabic word that means "issuing a summons" or "making an invitation". In the context of Islam, it refers to the act of inviting people to the teachings of Allah. The purpose of Dawah is to spread the message of God in a respectful and informative way, not a pushy or forceful way. Muslims who practice Dawah, either as a religious worker or in a volunteer community effort, are called dāʿīs.
Dawah involves two parties, the one who invites and the one who listens. When giving Dawah, it is important to do so politely and with the greatest of manners, as people are judging the character and behavior of the Muslim. There are many types of Dawah, including social media, face-to-face interactions, radio stations, TV, and behavior in public and private.
Dawah is an important part of Islam, and it is the duty of every Muslim to better their family, community, and society to the best of their ability. It is not necessary to be a scholar or preacher to engage in Dawah, as it can be given by any Muslim simply by living and following the teachings of Islam as an example.
