According to Islamic teachings, a dayooth is a man who lacks the demeanor of paternalistic protectiveness with regard to female family members or his spouse. More specifically, a dayooth is a man who permits women for whom he is responsible (e.g., mother, wife, sister, etc.) to engage in illicit relations or to display their beauty to strange men, thereby stimulating their sexual desires. The term dayooth has historically held religious, legal, and familial implications, depending on time and region, especially if a liaison results in pregnancy. Arabs of various religions often conceive the concept of the dayooth in a negative light, either personally or scripturally. The term has also permeated into populations that have religious denominations with such explications (such as Islamic jurisprudence) or geographically adjacent populations where the term is in usage. It is important to note that being a dayooth is considered a major sin in Islam, and it is believed that Jannah (paradise) is forbidden for such a person.
