Dev Home is a new open-source experience in Windows created specifically for developers. Dev Home is part of Windows and will update through the Microsoft Store and GitHub with continuous releases to add new features and improve quality.

• Dashboard: This is similar to the "Widgets" feature, allowing you to add different widgets to monitor hardware and networking components and track things like issues and pull requests from GitHub.

• Machine Configuration: Dev Home makes it easy to set up your machine for development by downloading apps, cloning repositories, and adding a Dev Drive to improve the performance of your projects storage volume.

• Extensions: Dev Home extensions power the functionality of Dev Homes customizable widgets. By default, Dev Home includes the GitHub extension, but you can also create and share your own custom-built extensions.

• Dev Drives: Dev Drives are a new storage volume option that use the Resilient File System (ReFS) and run in performance mode for Microsoft Defender Antivirus. These modifications allow for up to a 30% performance improvement in file-intensive scenarios like builds and package manager activities.

Dev Home is designed with customization and configurability in mind, and its built as an open-source tool with an extension model to allow you to create your own customized Dev Home experience. You can install Dev Home (Preview) from the Microsoft Store or from the GitHub releases page.
