Digital Immigration Status is an online record of an individuals immigration status and the conditions of their permission to enter or stay in the UK. It is a digital-only status that provides migrants with no physical documentation. It is gradually being rolled out and will replace any physical evidence of a visa such as a BRP card or stamp in the passport. A Digital Immigration Status is online proof of an individuals visa and allows organizations such as employers, landlords, and universities to check and verify their immigration status to assess their right to access those services. In most cases, a digital immigration status will be the only evidence an individual has of their permission to be in the UK. The UK government has set out its intention to digitize the countrys immigration system, including the introduction of digital-only immigration status and the removal of physical status. The new system will allow individuals to prove their immigration status digitally, without the need for a physical document. Some students may be issued with digital permission before 2025, and so they may instead be required to prove their immigration status via a share code. An individual can view and prove their Digital Immigration Status by generating a share code from the View and Prove Government webpages.
