DKA stands for Diabetic Ketoacidosis, which is a serious complication of diabetes that can be life-threatening. If left untreated, more severe symptoms can appear quickly, such as decreased alertness, dehydration, and low potassium levels.

DKA is a medical emergency and needs to be treated right away. Treatment for DKA usually takes place in the hospital and involves insulin, fluids, and other treatments. The underlying cause of DKA, such as an infection or missed insulin doses, also needs to be addressed.

To prevent DKA, it is important to check blood sugar levels often, especially when sick, keep blood sugar levels in the target range, take medicines as prescribed, and talk to a doctor about how to adjust insulin based on what you eat and your activity level.
