The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is an automated light metro system primarily serving the redeveloped Docklands area of London and providing a direct connection between Londons two major financial districts, Canary Wharf and the City of London. It is a driverless train line connected to the London Tube network, and passengers can pay for their journey with Oyster cards or Visitor Oyster cards. The DLR was part of the redevelopment of Londons Docklands in the 1980s and was built over previous rail infrastructure between 1987-1990, comprising 13 km of track with 15 stations. Since then, it has been extended multiple times, giving a total route length of 38 km (24 miles) and currently has 45 stations and 149 vehicles, many operating in 3-car formation. The DLR is currently operated by franchisee KeolisAmey Docklands for Transport for London (TfL), and passenger numbers have increased as the network has expanded since its launch. In the financial year 2022/23, there were 92.3 million passenger journeys.
