Domestic tourism refers to the travel of individuals or groups within their own country for recreational, leisure, or business purposes. It involves activities such as visiting tourist attractions, participating in cultural events, and engaging in outdoor activities in different regions or cities within the same country. Domestic tourism can be driven by factors such as holiday periods, long weekends, or seasonal events and can contribute significantly to a countrys tourism industry and economy. Domestic tourism is a well-established practice, happening in every country or region in the world. During the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic tourism increased significantly, as countries closed their airports to minimize the spread of COVID-19. In general, domestic tourists are anyone who undertakes travel activities in their own country of residence, i.e. living in London and traveling to Glasgow for the day or for an overnight stay. Domestic tourism is also known as a staycation in British English, although this is not to be confused with the concept of a vacation in which one stays overnight at their own home.
