Doxazosin is a medication used to treat two conditions: high blood pressure (hypertension) and symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic enlargement or benign prostatic hyperplasia) . It belongs to a group of medicines called alpha blockers, which work by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily, and by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. Doxazosin is available only with a doctors prescription and comes as tablets. The medication is usually taken once a day, and the dose may be gradually increased over time. The main side effects of doxazosin include headaches, swollen feet, ankles or fingers, needing to pee suddenly or more often, or pain in the lower stomach (abdomen) . Doxazosin can also make you feel dizzy or light-headed, especially when you first start taking it or when you start taking it again. If you feel dizzy, you should not drive a car, ride a bike, or use tools or machinery until you feel okay again.
