Dry mode is a feature found on many air conditioning units that can reduce humidity levels in a room. It is intended for days when the weather is humid but not too hot or too cold, and it can be activated with a single touch of a button on the remote control. When the air conditioner is in dry mode, it sucks out moisture from the air, similar to that of a dehumidifier, lowering humidity and capturing moisture in the air, thus releasing fresh and breezy air. The dry mode setting on an air conditioning unit is often confused with the cooling mode, but they are distinctive in terms of their function. In cooling mode, the blower fan and compressor are working at high speeds to move a lot of air and refrigerant through the air conditioner, while in dry mode, the system slows everything down. Dry mode is ideal when the conditions are humid and “sticky” and temperatures are not too hot, for example, on days when the weather has a tropical feel, and it’s been raining or about to rain. However, this mode won’t perform well on hot summer days, and it can also be used in winter, depending on your location’s weather forecast. It is important to note that dry mode on your air conditioner should not be confused with whole-house dehumidification, as the dehumidifying abilities of your air conditioner in dry mode are limited.
