Dua-e-khair is a traditional event that takes place before a Pakistani wedding. It is usually arranged by the brides family and is not a lavish or big function. The event is also known as Milaad. The difference between dua-e-khair and engagement is that in dua-e-khair, the groom is not present while in engagement, the groom is present. At both occasions, a ring ceremony takes place. The families of the bride and groom have sweets and decide the further proceedings. The selection of attires and jewelry for the dua-e-khair or engagement is an important part of the event, and both the bride and groom take good time to opt for the most beautiful dress for the big day. Light-colored apparels like peach, grey, etc., are worn by the brides at the engagement or dua-e-khair, and light jewelry is preferred for these events, while the grooms wear a three-piece suit at engagement and shalwar kameez at the wedding.
