DVS stands for Digital Vinyl System, which is a technology that allows DJs to use analog turntables or digital media players to control digital media stored in a computer. DVS uses special timecode records and CDs (or timecode file loaded on USB sticks) paired with turntables or DJ media players to control laptop DJ software. Once DVS is enabled in the software, DJs get a choice of four play modes instead of just the one mode they get without DVS. Each mode performs differently, and learning how and when to use each mode is the key to getting the most out of any DVS. The four different DVS modes are Absolute Mode, Relative Mode, Internal Mode, and Hybrid Mode.

It is important to note that DVS can also refer to Descriptive Video Service, which is a free national service that makes television programs and popular home video movies accessible to people who are blind. However, in the context of DJing, DVS refers to Digital Vinyl System.
