Dynamic charges in trains refer to the pricing system that is used for certain categories of trains in India, such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto trains. Under this system, the base fares of these trains increase by 10% for every 10% of seats booked, with a cap of 50% hike in the original fare. This means that the earlier a passenger books a ticket, the lower the fare will be. Dynamic charges are also applicable to waitlisted and RAC passengers. The system was introduced to help the Indian Railways balance its books, as it has been running many trains at rock-bottom fares and has been struggling with losses in the passenger segment.
