Earthing or grounding refers to direct skin contact with the surface of the Earth, such as with bare feet or hands, or with various grounding systems. The practice involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth, which is believed to realign your electrical energy. The natural rhythmic pulsations of energy flowing through and emanating from the surface of the Earth keep the biological machinery and global life running in rhythm and balance, and grounding allows people to directly connect their bodies with the Earth and use its natural electric charges to improve health.
Some benefits of grounding include reducing inflammation, improving the immune response, wound healing, and prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Grounding can be performed inside or outside, with or without equipment such as grounding mats, sheets, or footwear.
To ground yourself, you can walk barefoot on grass, sand, dirt, or concrete, as these are conductive surfaces and the Earths energy flows through them and into your body. You can also use grounding systems such as sheets, mats, wrist or ankle bands, adhesive patches, or footwear that are connected to the Earth via a cord inserted into a grounded wall outlet or attached to a ground rod placed in the soil outside below a window.
