Emergency Alert Extreme is a type of Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) that warns the public of an impending natural or human-made disaster, such as tsunamis, tornadoes, extreme winds, hurricanes, typhoons, and other threatening emergencies that are current or emerging. The alert is sent directly to mobile devices by authorized government alerting authorities through mobile carriers. The alert message is designed to override silent mode on smartphones in order to alert the user, and it includes a loud buzzer-like sound to attract the attention of the user. The Emergency Alert Extreme is part of the Pan-India Emergency Alert System being implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications.
