Emergency alerts on Android are notifications that warn users about imminent threats to safety in their area. These alerts are part of the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system, which allows government officials to target emergency alerts to specific geographic areas. There are different types of emergency alerts that users can receive on their Android devices, including:
- National Alerts: issued by the President of the United States or the Administrator of FEMA.
- Imminent Threat Alerts: involving imminent threats to safety or life.
- AMBER Alerts: about missing children.
- Public Safety Messages: conveying recommendations for saving lives and property.
Users can turn emergency alerts on or off on their Android devices by going to the settings app and looking for the search option at the top. In the search box, they can type in "emergency alerts" or just "emergency" or "alerts" and look for the search results that are called something like "emergency alerts". Once they tap on emergency alerts, they can select the alerts they want to receive. It is important to note that emergency alerts are on by default, and users can only turn off all but the presidential alerts.
