Ex Works (EXW) is an international trade term that describes a shipping arrangement where a seller makes a product available at a specific location, usually the sellers factory or depot, and the buyer of the product must cover the transport costs. Under this term, the seller has minimal responsibility, and the buyer bears the full risk and costs from the point of collection to the final destination, including loading the goods onto a vehicle, export procedures, onward transport, and all costs arising after collection of the goods. The buyer is also responsible for all export procedures, including customs regulations, and for meeting all the requirements for onward transport. Once the buyer has their goods, they are responsible for other risks, such as transferring them to a ship or plane, and meeting customs regulations. Ex Works is one of the 11 standardized international trade terms published by the International Chamber of Commerce.
