The EZ-IO system is a medical device used for intraosseous access, which is a method of obtaining vascular access when traditional methods are difficult or impossible. The EZ-IO system involves inserting a sterile needle into the intraosseous space, which contains a matrix of blood vessels and nerves that provide rapid distribution of fluids and medications. The insertion site is typically the proximal tibia, 1-2 cm medial to the tibial tuberosity. Once the needle is inserted, an EZ-Stabilizer dressing is applied to the skin, and an extension set is attached to the catheter hub. The placement is confirmed by flushing the catheter with normal saline and delivering medication and fluids as ordered. The Arrow EZ-IO system is indicated for use in emergent, urgent, or medically necessary cases, such as cardiac, shock, respiratory, and neurologic cases.
