F1 Sprint is a new format introduced in 2021 to improve the show for the fans and to provide more opportunities for drivers to race and score more points. It is a race run over 100km (in Silverstones case, 17 laps) and lasting around 25-30 minutes. The race is designed to provide a short and fast-paced racing spectacle, similar to a Twenty20 cricket match, with drivers racing flat-out from start to finish without the need to pit. The Sprint race is essentially a shortened version of a normal race, taking place over a shorter distance of 100km. The winner of a Sprint Race collects eight points to add to their tally for the championship. The Sprint race is different from the main race in that there is no mandatory pit-stop, meaning that drivers can use one compound of tire for the duration of the race. The format has had a mixed reception, with drivers such as Max Verstappen not being a fan of the traditional format being tinkered and changed with, whilst fans have enjoyed the chance to witness more wheel-to-wheel action over a weekend.
