The F1 Sprint Shootout is a new qualifying session that is part of the F1 Sprint weekend format. The F1 Sprint weekend format is a new format introduced in 2021 to spice up certain races, offering venues the chance to have three days of competitive running (Qualifying on Friday, a sprint race on Saturday, and the race on Sunday) rather than an entire Friday dedicated to practice sessions. The Sprint Shootout follows the same three-session knockout format as usual qualifying, but each Q1, Q2, and Q3 segment has been shortened to 12 minutes, 10 minutes, and 5 minutes, respectively. The Sprint Shootout takes place on Saturday morning instead of a second practice session, with traditional qualifying on Friday setting the grid for Sundays grand prix. The F1 Sprint is a 100km race with no mandatory pit stops and drivers racing flat-out to the chequered flag. The top eight drivers score points, with the driver who finishes P1 receiving eight points.
