The F2A visa category is a Family Based Green Card designed for spouses and unmarried children of U.S. permanent residents/Green card holders. It is one of the categories of the "preference relative Green Cards" and is limited to a quota of 70% of the total number of visas issued in the second category, with the remaining 30% allocated to the F2B category. To be eligible for an F2A visa, the spouse needs to be able to prove their relationship with their U.S. sponsor, and in the case of children, they must be unmarried and under the age of 21. The F2A visa application process involves filing a petition, which, if approved, is sent to the National Visa Center (NVC) for further processing. Once a visa application becomes available, the applicant can begin the F2A visa application process. The F2A visa is subject to a quota, and the number of visas available every year is established by U.S. law. Due to a growing backlog of cases in this category, the "Final Action Dates" for F-2A applications are no longer "current" for the first time in several years.
