Farxiga 10 mg is a prescription medication that contains the active ingredient dapagliflozin, which belongs to a group of drugs called sodium-glucose transport protein 2 inhibitors. Farxiga is used in adults to:
- Improve blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus alongside diet and exercise.
- Lower the risk of going to the hospital for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have cardiovascular disease or multiple risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
- Lower the risk of further worsening of chronic kidney disease, end-stage kidney disease, death due to cardiovascular disease, and hospitalization due to heart failure in people with chronic kidney disease at risk of worsening.
Farxiga should not be used to improve blood sugar control in people with type 1 diabetes. It is also not for use to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes who have moderate to severe kidney problems, certain genetic forms of polycystic kidney disease, or who are taking or have recently received immunosuppressive therapy to treat kidney disease.
