FedEx SmartPost, now known as FedEx Ground Economy, is a shipping service that utilizes both FedExs ground shipping network and the U.S. Postal Service. It is a cost-effective option for shipping low-weight residential packages directly to customers doors. Here are some key features of FedEx SmartPost:
- Shippers give parcels to FedEx, which transports the shipment through its trucks, warehouses, and SmartPost specific sortation hubs.
- SmartPost typically utilizes the USPS for the last leg of deliveries, also known as "last mile," but in some instances, when FedEx is already near a packages destination and direct delivery proved more easy and efficient, FedEx drivers would deliver parcels themselves.
- FedEx SmartPost was a rebrand from FedExs Parcel Direct acquisition, and the service was operating on a standalone model, with its own network and 26 warehouses and sorting hubs.
- FedEx Ground Economy operates solely within FedExs own network, providing more control over the entire delivery process.
FedEx Ground Economy takes 2-7 business days based on the destinations distance, and the service days are Monday through Saturday. However, some of FedExs normal shipping options are unavailable when using SmartPost. Additionally, fuel surcharges and dimensional weight apply to FedEx SmartPost packages.
