A Finsta, or "fake Instagram," is a secondary Instagram account used by teens and young adults to document more real, candid posts that they share with only close friends. Unlike a public Instagram account, a Finsta is a private account only followed by 10-20 people. It allows users to post more funny, unedited snapshots of their daily lives, or share inside-joke moments with friends. Finstas are often used to hide activity from parents, partners, or schools, and can provide anonymity. To create a Finsta, users need to come up with a unique username and select a unique profile picture that is anything but them to ensure anonymity. The account should not be linked to the users primary Instagram account or any other outside accounts. Users can then start posting pictures and interact with other accounts in a more private way, usually reserving the accounts followers to close friends.
