Flovent is a prescription inhaled corticosteroid medicine used for the long-term treatment of asthma in people aged 4 years and older. It is used to control and prevent symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath caused by asthma by reducing inflammation of the airways in the lungs. Flovent belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It is not used to relieve sudden breathing problems from asthma, and it wont replace a rescue inhaler. Flovent must be used regularly to be effective, and it does not work right away. If an asthma attack occurs, a quick-relief inhaler such as albuterol should be used as prescribed. Flovent is not a rescue medicine for asthma attacks, and medical attention should be sought if breathing problems get worse quickly or if asthma medications are not working as well. Flovent is for use in adults and children who are at least 4 years old.
