Folie en famille is a term used to describe a shared psychotic disorder within a family in more than two members. The involved patients have an unusually close relationship and are isolated from others. This condition is also known as folie à plusieurs or shared psychosis. The primary patient usually suffers from a mental disorder, such as paranoid schizophrenia, and imposes their delusions upon and later shares them with their family members. Temporary separation can decrease the intensity of shared delusions in the other family members.
