FRC stands for FIRST Robotics Competition, which is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build robots capable of competing in that years game that weigh up to 125 pounds (57 kg) . The game and the required set of tasks change annually, and robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, placing inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing robots on balance beams.
It is important to note that FRC is not Battlebots. FRC involves teams of high school students and adult mentors who design, fabricate, and program a large robot that will compete at one or more regional tournaments with 40+ schools each year. Success at the qualifying events enables teams to compete at the FIRST Championships in Houston, TX against 400+ schools from around the world.
It is also worth mentioning that FRC is not the only meaning of FRC. FRC can also stand for Functional Residual Capacity, which is the volume remaining in the lungs after a normal, passive exhalation. The FRC is important because it is related to several factors such as airway and vascular resistance, work of breathing, compliance, oxygen reserve, closing capacity, and V/Q mismatch.
Finally, FRC can also refer to the Family Research Council, which is a nonprofit research and educational organization dedicated to articulating and advancing a family-centered.
