FSD stands for Full Self-Driving, which is a suite of advanced driver assistance features designed to provide more active guidance and assisted driving under the drivers active supervision. FSD is a technology developed by Tesla that uses a combination of sensors and cameras to enable the vehicle to perceive and react to its surroundings, including identifying road signs, detecting other vehicles, pedestrians, and obstacles on the road. FSD is not self-driving, despite the name, and requires a licensed human driver ready to take control at any time. FSD can be purchased as an add-on feature for Tesla vehicles that have the necessary hardware installed, and the price varies depending on the vehicles Autopilot configuration. Tesla recently raised the price of its FSD feature package to $15,000, following quick increases from $10,000 to $12,000 earlier in 2022. Tesla is also in discussions with major OEMs about using Tesla FSD and allowing the transfer of FSD software to new vehicles.
