Germanic Europe refers to the region in Europe where Germanic-speaking peoples settled thousands of years ago. The Germanic peoples were historical groups of people that once occupied Northwestern and Central Europe and Scandinavia during antiquity and into the early Middle Ages. The name "Germanic" is of Latin origin and was given to the vast, culturally and linguistically diverse collection of tribes with a common origin by the Romans. The Germanic Europe DNA region is located in the most northwestern part of Western Europe and is adjacent to Eastern Europe and Russia. Countries that still speak Germanic languages are generally referred to as comprising Germanic Europe.

The earliest tribes that are typically called Germanic date to about 750 BC, and inhabited the northern coast of present-day Germany, along with southern Scandinavia. Germanic Europe DNA can be found in several countries, including Germany, Denmark, France, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Some other regions which were settled by Germanic tribes long ago may show small traces of Germanic Europe DNA as well, including the British Isles (especially England), Spain, Northern Italy, the Balkans, and Scandinavia.

It is important to note that Germanic Europe is not the same as German or Germany, which is a separate country in Europe. Each individual country within Germanic Europe, while sharing some common origins, has unique linguistic and cultural traditions.
