The Global Talent visa is a UK immigration category for talented and promising individuals in specific sectors wishing to work in the UK. It replaced the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa in February 2020. To be considered for entry under the Global Talent visa, applicants must normally seek endorsement from one of six endorsing bodies engaged by the UK Home Office. The endorsing bodies are:
- British Academy
- Royal Academy of Engineering
- Royal Society
- UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
- Arts Council England
- Tech Nation
The Global Talent visa is available to individuals who are leaders or potential leaders in the fields of academia or research, arts and culture, and digital technology. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and can apply for a visa to work in the UK for up to 5 years at a time. The visa allows individuals to be an employee, self-employed, and a director of a company, and to change or stop doing their job without telling the Home Office.
To apply for a Global Talent visa, applicants must first apply for an endorsement to prove that they are a leader or potential leader in their field. Applicants can apply for the visa without an endorsement if they have won an eligible award. The cost of applying for a Global Talent visa is £623, which is paid in two parts if applying based on an endorsement. The decision on the visa application is usually made within 3 weeks if the applicant is outside the UK and 8 weeks if the applicant is inside the UK.
If an applicant is not eligible for a Global Talent visa, there are other ways to work in the UK, such as a Skilled Worker visa.
