GNWL stands for General Waiting List. It is one of the types of waiting lists available with train booking. GNWL waitlisted tickets are issued when the passenger begins his/her journey at the originating station of a route or stations close to the originating station. This is the most common type of waiting list and has the highest chances of confirmation. If a passenger has a GNWL ticket, then their travel with a train is not guaranteed, and they will have to wait for their ticket to be confirmed. The confirmation of GNWL tickets depends on the cancellations of confirmed tickets. When RAC tickets are canceled, GNWL ticket holders are given priority over them.
