Good Will Hunting is about Will Hunting, a 20-year-old self-taught math genius from South Boston who works as a janitor at MIT. Despite his prodigious talents, he leads an aimless life, hanging out with friends and getting into trouble. When Will anonymously solves difficult graduate-level math problems, he is discovered by Professor Gerald Lambeau. After Will gets arrested for attacking a police officer, Lambeau arranges for him to avoid jail by studying mathematics under his supervision and attending therapy sessions. Will struggles with opening up to therapists until he meets Dr. Sean Maguire, a psychologist from his neighborhood who challenges him. Through therapy and relationships, Will begins to confront his troubled past and fears, gradually finding a path toward realizing his potential and opening his heart, especially influenced by his relationship with a woman named Skylar.
