Google Pinyin Input is an input method developed by Google China Labs that allows users to type Chinese characters on their devices. It was made publicly available on April 4, 2007, and includes both Pinyin input and stroke count method input. Google Pinyin Input was available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10 version 1511 or below, and for Android 1.5 or newer. The Linux user community has also ported the Android Google Pinyin IME to the non-Android Linux IME framework SCIM in the scim-googlepinyin module.
Google Pinyin Input offers a variety of methods for fast and easy input of Chinese characters, including sliding your finger from one character to the next to form words, writing Western letters and making them automatically switch to Chinese script, or combining these two options. The app also supports voice dictation, and is compatible with both simplified and traditional Chinese characters, as well as punctuation marks, emojis, Latin script, and numbers.
As of March 2019, Google Pinyin has been discontinued and the download page tools are no longer available. However, there are still third-party websites where users can download the APK file for Android devices.
