A graduate constituency election is an election in which only graduates from any recognized Indian university can vote. These elections are held to elect members to the Legislative Council from graduate constituencies. In Karnataka Legislative Council, for example, seven of the 75 members are elected from graduate constituencies. The voter rolls for graduate constituencies are different from other elections, and enrollment should be done separately. The elections from teachers and graduates constituencies were introduced with the intention of ensuring that educated voters help to curb corruption and criminalization of politics. However, some argue that these constituencies are redundant.

Recently, the University of Mumbai invited fresh applications for voter registration of the graduates’ constituency elections. The graduates’ constituency elections were on hold, pending the verification of applications for enrollment as graduate voters.
