Green PIN is a digital PIN generation for debit cards that minimizes the use of paper and helps in preserving the environment. It is a PIN that can be generated digitally through multiple channels such as ATM, IVR, SMS, Missed Call, or Netbanking. Green PIN was introduced in 2016 by the State Bank of India. The PIN is generated instantly and becomes the PIN of the debit card that can be used for authorizing cashless transactions and cash withdrawals.

The process of generating Green PIN varies depending on the channel used. For example, to generate Green PIN using an ATM, the customer needs to insert the debit card at any Bank of India ATM, select the language, and then select the "Forgot/Create PIN Green PIN" option on the screen. The customer will then receive a 6-digit OTP on their registered mobile number, which they will need to enter to generate the PIN.

Green PIN has various advantages, including being an instant PIN generation facility, minimizing the use of paper, and being a hassle-free process. It is also a value-added service that promotes paperless banking and makes it easier for cardholders to generate their debit card PIN.
