Guard regain is a mechanic in the game Lies of P that allows players to recover HP lost from guarding enemy attacks. When a player blocks or guards enemy attacks, some of their HP is still reduced. However, if they attack quickly enough after blocking, they can regain a portion of their lost HP. This is similar to the rally system from Bloodborne. Guard regain is represented by the grayed-out health bar that appears when a player blocks but doesnt hit the parry. If a player hits the enemy without getting hit again, they will recover 100% of what they initially lost. Perfect guard/deflecting will recover a bit of grayed health, which is great for block and slash tactics. The amount of HP that players can accumulate when Guard Regain is active can be increased by leveling up the Vitality stat. Additionally, players can unlock the Retain Guard Regain ability in the Phase 2 P-Organ System, which increases the amount of HP that players can accumulate when Guard Regain is active.
