Hadith Qudsi is a special category of Hadith, which is the compendium of sayings attributed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The content of Hadith Qudsi is attributed to Allah, but the actual wording is credited to Muhammad. These Hadiths are unique because they are direct narratives of Allah. They are so named because, unlike the majority of Hadith, which are Prophetic Hadith, their authority is traced back not to the Prophet but to Allah. The authority in Hadith Qudsi is attributed to Allah through the Prophet. The distinction between the Quran and Hadith Qudsi is that the Quran contains the verbatim words of Allah, while Hadith Qudsi contains the message of Allah conveyed to the people by the Prophet in his own words. The following are some of the differences between the Quran and Hadith Qudsi:

  • The Quran is miraculous in its wording and was revealed by the intermediary of the Angel Gabriel, while Hadith Qudsi has neither of these qualities.
  • The Quran is in the direct wording of Allah as from Al-Lauh Al-Mahfu (the Preserved Tablet), while Hadith Qudsi is from Allah as to the meaning and from the Prophet as to the wording.
  • The Quran is considered to be the verbatim word of Allah, but Hadith Qudsi is given a special category, thus occupying a status between the Quran and normal Hadith text.

Hadith Qudsi is generally traced back to the Prophet as regards their authority, but the authority in Hadith Qudsi is attributed to Allah through the Prophet. The following is a collection of 40 Hadith Qudsi.
