Hera is the goddess of marriage, women, and family, and the protector of women during childbirth in ancient Greek religion. She is also the queen of the twelve Olympians and Mount Olympus, sister and wife of Zeus, and daughter of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. Hera was responsible for the welfare of women and children, and women in ancient Greece would pray to her for protection during childbirth, good health, and guidance in marriage and affairs of the heart. In artistic depictions, Hera is usually a noble and beautiful woman who wears long, flowing robes and a distinctive cylindrical crown called a polos or a wreath and a veil. She had a number of sacred animals, most prominently the peacock, along with the cuckoo and the cow.
