The list identifies the richest Indians based on their net worth, which is calculated by taking a snapshot of their wealth on March 31st of each year. The Hurun India Rich List 2023 was released on October 11th, 2023, and identified 1,319 individuals with a net worth of INR 1,000 crore or more. The cumulative wealth of the listers has surged to INR 109 lakh crore, surpassing the combined GDP of many countries.

The Hurun India Rich List 2023 identified Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, as the richest Indian with a net worth of INR 8,08,700 crore. Gautam Adani, who had been the richest Indian for the past year, took the second spot on the list with a net worth of INR 4,74,800 crore. The list also identified Indian-origin professional managers/business heads who have an impressive net worth. The CEO of Arista Networks, Jayshree Ullal, was named the richest Indian professional manager with a net worth of INR 20,800 crore.

The Hurun India Rich List is not limited to identifying the wealthiest individuals in India. The Hurun Research Institute also releases lists ranking Indias most successful artists, the most valuable private sector companies, the most successful real estate entrepreneurs and inheritors, and the fastest-growing start-ups.
