The IDF in Israel stands for the Israel Defense Forces. It is the military wing of the State of Israel and is responsible for defending the existence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of the state of Israel, protecting its inhabitants, and combating all forms of terrorism that threaten daily life. The IDF is composed of three service branches: the Israeli Ground Forces, the Israeli Air Force, and the Israeli Navy. The IDF Spokespersons Unit is a unit in the IDF Operations Directorate responsible for information policy and media relations. Its mission is to report on the accomplishments and activities of the IDF to the Israeli and international public, nurture public confidence in the IDF, and serve as the IDFs primary professional authority on matters of public relations and distribution of information to the public. The unit is also a key player for the public diplomacy efforts of the State of Israel.
