IKS stands for Indian Knowledge Systems, which is an innovative cell under the Ministry of Education (MoE) at AICTE, New Delhi. It is established to promote interdisciplinary research on all aspects of IKS, preserve and disseminate IKS for further research and societal applications. The aim of IKS is to spread the rich heritage of Indias traditional knowledge in the field of Arts and literature, Agriculture, Basic Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Architecture, Management, Economics, etc. .
In addition to this, IKS can also stand for Indigenous Knowledge Systems, which comprises knowledge developed within indigenous societies, independent of, and prior to, the advent of scientific knowledge. Indigenous Knowledge Systems are developed by a community and are different from scientific knowledge.
