IMAP is a protocol that allows you to download messages from a mail providers servers, such as those for Gmail, onto your computer so you can use an email client like Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Apple Mail to view and edit your email, even when you arent connected to the internet. Gmail supports the standard IMAP protocol, and the IMAP server address for Gmail is "imap.gmail.com". The following are the IMAP settings you need to set up Gmail:
- IMAP server address: imap.gmail.com
- IMAP port: 993
- IMAP security: SSL / TLS
- IMAP username: Your full Gmail address (for example, [email protected])
- IMAP password: Your Gmail password
